UPS SurePost introduced in early 2011 is an economy ground service delivering to residential locations utilizing USPS for final delivery. While a tentative agreement between UPS and the Teamsters Union exists on two new five year agreements for UPS Small Parcel and Freight (Less-Than-Truckload), UPS SurePost may be subject to changes if the deal is ratified.
Key points being discussed include technological advancements with the capability of identifying over-sized (more than 3 cubic feet) or overweight packages within 120 days of the deal and continued use and development of technology that identifies two or more SurePost packages to be delivered to the same address as well as any combination of SurePost packages and ground packages to be delivered to the same address.
The idea is to utilize UPS drivers for delivery of SurePost packages weighing more than 10 pounds and greater than 3 cubic feet as well as SurePost packages that are being delivered to the same address as already scheduled UPS packages.
