Effective February 2nd, 2015 UPS has increased its Fuel Surcharge Rates across all products.
We have recently reported on FedEx Fuel Surcharge rate increases going into effect February 2nd, 2015 to be more in line with UPS Fuel Surcharge tables. UPS overnight on February 1st, 2015 updated their fuel surcharge tables with increased rates under the radar after seeing an opportunity to do so insync with FedEx.
Customers were not notified of this increase by UPS and what many do not realize is that as is with FedEx, language exists in the service guide that changes or modifications to terms and conditions can be done at any time, without notice. Shippers agree to these terms at the time of shipping.
FedEx announced that FedEx Express and International services will rise by up to 4% with the fuel index for these products to change from 4.5 percent to 6.5 percent along with FedEx Ground products increasing by up to 3.5 percent.
Unless shippers have specific fuel surcharge tables written into their agreements or there is a clause that all rules in effect at time of signing will remain for the life of the contract all FedEx shippers will be affected.
UPS announced that UPS Ground fuel surcharges are increasing between .25 percent and .50 percent based off fuel prices between $2.91 per gallon to $4.26 per gallon along with UPS Air and International fuel surcharges rising up to .75 percent for fuel costs between $1.95 per gallon and $2.33 per gallon.
There are only a select few shippers that will not be impacted due to this increase as there are not many UPS shippers that have fuel surcharge tables written into their agreements.
Now, more than ever is a great time to look into working with an experienced shipping consultant that provides auditing and contract services and solutions. Virtually every aspect of pricing that could increase with FedEx and UPS has done that for 2015 making this year the largest increase in history. General rate increases, dim weight rule changes, accessorial increases, and now fuel surcharge increases. Working wiith a logistics auditing service provider can mitigate or eliminate these increases while bringing back additional savings through auditing your carrier invoices.
