By Staff Atlantic Business Chronicle / www.bizjournals.com / February, 10th, 2015

Before you send flowers to your sweetie this Valentine's Day, check out what Brown does for you to make that possible.

Atlanta-based United Parcel Service Inc. (NYSE: UPS) will ship more than 110 million flowers in the United States this Valentine's Day. Many of the blossoms come from Latin American countries, primarily Colombia and Ecuador, UPS noted.

More than 90 percent of the imported flowers will travel through Miami International Airport, where UPS is the largest air cargo carrier.

UPS also will add 40 additional flights to and from Latin America to get your flowers to your special someone.

According to the National Retail Federation, consumers are expected to spend an average of $142 on Valentine's gifts, with $41 used to buy flowers. U.S. consumers are projected to spend almost $19 billion on Valentine's gifts.
