UPDATE: Wildfires Impacting California and Service Resumed in Puerto Rico

Source: UPS / www.ups.com / October 10th, 2017

Evacuation orders due to wildfires in California continue preventing service in some areas. There will be no pickups or deliveries today in the affected areas.

We will work to ensure the safety of our employees while minimizing effects on service. Contingency plans are in place to help ensure that shipments arrive at their final destinations as quickly as conditions permit.

Pickups and Deliveries Underway in Puerto Rico

UPS has reestablished delivery service to Puerto Rico. Air and package shipments and some freight services are now available in 147 of the island 176 ZIP Codes.

Throughout Puerto Rico some residents are living in alternative dwellings. In response, we have begun special hold for package pickup services at five of the company’s seven package centers. In San Juan, package center pickup hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. & 6:00 p.m. In Arecibo, Bayamon, Caguas and Ponce, package center pickup hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. & 5:00 p.m.

Pickup service will only be available for scheduled daily pickups. There will be no UPS On-Call Air Pickup service available at this time.

We have established special hurricane aid rates, which can be applied at the time of shipping, for packages shipped from the U.S. to Puerto Rico and selected Caribbean destinations. To access the special rates go to www.ups.com.ship or visit a local The UPS Store location or call 1-800-PICK-UPS. These special rates are available for deferred services effective Monday, October 9 through Tuesday, October 31 for individual customers not under existing UPS commercial agreements.

We are implementing contingency plans to ensure all shipments are delivered to their final destinations as quickly as conditions permit but we expect continued challenges before operations return to normal. At this time, you should anticipate delays when shipping to Puerto Rico due to a backlog of packages in UPS facilities throughout the island and on the mainland. Transit time commitments are temporarily suspended due to extensive damage to the island’s roads and other infrastructure.
